Ten Broeck Mansion Holiday Decorating

Each year, The Bethlehem Garden Club shares in designing the holiday decor of Ten Broeck Mansion in Albany, NY. The Bethlehem Garden Club has volunteered to decorate a room-of-choice for the holidays at Ten Broeck Mansion in Albany, NY for many years. The planning and collaboration of the BGC members has been a rewarding and enjoyable experience. Here are some images of the final designs. Please contact us to become a member and be involved.

2019

Bethlehem Garden Club Ten Broeck Committee Members gathered on November 20, 2019 to deck the halls of the front parlor. This year's theme for Ten Broeck Mansion was "Traditions" with a fabulous interpretation into a BGC theme of "O Little Town of Bethlehem." The display came to life as committee members including: Co-chairs, Mary Redmond, Magdalena Slone, and Carie MacDonald, Club President, Dodie Seagle, and Club members: Elaine Bird, Meg Bugler, Marcy Corneil, Meaghan Corneil, Dee Foley, Donna Green, Louise Kavanaugh, Pat Matarrese, Janie Schwab, Carolyn Steadman, and Ellie Prakken donated their time and supplies to contribute to another successful year. These talented women have volunteered to execute beautifully crafted designs by committee co-chairs. The results of their teamwork and camaraderie was a culmination of another magnificent presentation.

The display was open for viewing between November 21, 2019 - January 9, 2020 showing it's elegance in design to all event attendees at the mansion throughout the holidays.

2018

Ten Broeck Mansion was beautifully decorated with a caroling theme for this year's holiday decor. The overall theme of the mansion for this year was "Time Honored Traditions."  A team of eleven Bethlehem Garden Club members including: Mary Redmond, Magdalena Slone, Carie MacDonald, Marcy Corneil, Elaine Bird, Dee Foley, Louise Kavanaugh, Janie Schwab, Donna Green, Dodie Seagle and Jeri Boseman worked to achieve a festive holiday display of greens, flowers, carolers, ribbons, ornaments, instruments, fabric and paper in the rear parlor after Thanksgiving.

2017

The holiday decorating of Ten Broeck Mansion proved to be a success.  Bethlehem Garden Club decorated the main dining room of the mansion on Tuesday morning, November 28th. The talented and generous team of women who decorated included the committee chairs: Mary Redmond, Carie MacDonald, and Magdalena Slone, and committee members:  Elaine Bird, Marcy Corneil, Dee Foley, Donna Green, Louise Kavanaugh, Janie Schwab, and Bonnie Smith. The theme was “The Gift of the Holiday” featuring a dining room theme of “Holiday Tea” where décor and food items (although not edible) adorned the tabletops, curio cabinet, mantlepiece, tree and windows with a gold and blue color scheme, many donated fresh greens, dried flowers and herbs, and a Menorah to recognize our diverse religious population.

A series of events took place throughout December highlighting Ten Broeck Mansion for the holidays. Musical events, teas, lectures, a children’s story hour and an opportunity to meet with the Dutch Sinterklaas to enjoy the holiday decorations provided by local garden clubs were among the festivities.

We had many positive comments about the beauty of the decorations and the aroma of dried herbs coming from the display and ornaments throughout the room.

Many thanks go to all of you who donated materials and volunteered your time for setup and breakdown of the display.

We would like to give special thanks to Magdalena Slone for her years as committee chair of the Ten Broeck Decorating Committee. Her vision, creativity, enthusiasm and talents in conjunction with Mary Redmond’s design talents, visual acuity, attention to fine details and the fundamentals have lead the members in many years of success. Magdalena has championed the activity for many years, but has asked Carie MacDonald to assume some of the responsibilities as committee chair with Mary Redmond in the coming year. We look forward to next year’s exhibit.
